    Hermetic Seal Technology (HST) has been setting the standards for custom glass-to-metal seals, especially lithium battery seals, since 1994. We have specially formulated Lithium corrosion resistant glass to greatly reduce corrosion and to isolate lithium electrolytes, such as lithium / manganese dioxide (LiMnO2), lithium / sulfur dioxide (Li/SO2), and lithium / thionyl chloride (Li/SOCl2) in lithiumbatteries, from foreign agents. HST lithium battery seals can withstand corrosive chemicals, electrical variations, as well as extreme temperatures to give your battery a long shelf life.

    For high performance lithium batteries, we fabricate reliable hermetic seals from high-conductivity pin materials, exotic alloys and both standard and custom formulated lithium battery glasses. We specialize in consistently processing lithium compatible glass materials including Cabal 12, TA-23, and Babal. Sealing hermetic glass to stainless steels or pure metals such as titanium and molybdenum, is our specialty.

    Our extensive sealing and welding capabilities enable us to seal into an eyelet, seal directly into the battery lid, or even hermetically weld the eyelet into the lid. We specially design eyelets that can be either resistance-welded or laser welded into the battery lid. With in-house hermeticity testing capabilities, HST performs 100% leak checks on all parts to guarantee that the seal is hermetic to better than 1 x 10-8 cc/sec helium.

    For the healthcare industry, we custom design and manufacture a unique line of medical equipment titanium seals. HST specializes in manufacturing glass-to-metal seals for lithium batteries used in medical implantable devices such as pacemakers, heart defibrillators, drug-delivery systems, portable diagnostic equipment, and pumps. Unlike conventional glass sealing processes, our manufacturing process does not involve chemical oxide removal processes. Our production processes are also free from the carburization process that weakens the corrosion resistant capabilities of the seal’s housing. With clean seal technology, we make ready-to-install glass seals that do not require any post machining.

    We efficiently seal stainless steel as well as titanium housings with a variety of pins and glass combinations. Pins for your electrical feedthrus for critical medical equipment can be manufactured from molybdenum, stainless steel, and platinum/iridium. Besides manufacturing glass from standard materials such as Babal, TA-23, and Cabal 12, we also make our own lithium corrosion resistant glass materials. HST performs 100% leak tests on titanium seals in all types of medical equipment. Our glass-to-metal seals consistently have a minimum helium leak rate of 1 x 10-8 cc/sec.

    Our experience and expertise in hermetic welding plus brazing allows us to offer range of glass-to-metal seals for the healthcare, military, aerospace, electronic, and automotive applications.

    Using resistance welding, we are able to hermetically join glass-to-metal seals to metal surfaces, such as battery lids. To ensure the high hermeticity of the packages, we take into consideration factors such as the type of materials, component design, and welding parameters to ensure the welding process will not damage the glass-to-metal seal

    Beyond our in-house welding and testing capabilities, HST can also produce brazed leak-tight assemblies. By hermetic brazing, various components and materials can be joined together. Regardless of the processing approach we adopt, be it welding or brazing, all our hermetically sealed components are subject to 100% leak tests. We guarantee a hermeticity of better than 1 x 10-8 cc/sec of helium on all our welded or brazed packages. We test both the weld (or braze) and the glass-to-metal seal to make sure the package is leak free.
